Mantra Om Mani Padme Hum - one of the most famous mantras in Mahayana Buddhism, especially characteristic of Tibetan Buddhism, is the six-syllable mantra of the bodhisattva of compassion Avalokiteshvara. The mantra is especially associated with Shadakshari (Lord of the Six Syllables), the incarnation of Avalokiteshvara, and has a deep sacred meaning.

This mantra has many meanings. All of them come down to explaining the meaning of the totality of sacred sounds of its constituent syllables. The mantra itself is rarely interpreted in the sense due to its literal translation: "Oh, the pearl that shines in the lotus flower!"

In particular, the 14th Dalai Lama explains that the mantra represents the purity of the body, speech and mind of the Buddha. The second word (མ་ཎི། - "jewel") corresponds to bodhichitta - the desire for awakening, compassion and love. The third word (པ་དྨེ། - "lotus flower") refers to wisdom. The fourth word (ཧཱུྃ།) personifies the indivisibility of practice (method) and wisdom.

This mantra has its own name, namely “Six-syllable”, which is traditionally explained [by whom?] by the ability of the six syllables of the mantra to save living beings from birth in the six vales of samsara (hellish worlds, the world of hungry ghosts, the world of animals, the world of people, the world of demigods, the world of the gods), while each syllable symbolizes a certain world.

The practice of reading the "Six-syllable" in order to liberate living beings is reflected, in particular, in the Tibetan practice of reciting dharani "The practice of heavenly activity of Avalokiteshvara": OM - removes pride and conceit, MA - removes jealousy and envy, NI - removes attachment and selfish desires, PAD - dispels ignorance and confusion, ME - dissolves greed and greed, HUM - transforms hatred and anger.

Another, much more common colloquial designation for this mantra is Mani, by which name it is commonly known and used by Tibetan and Mongolian Buddhists.

There is also a version that claims that reading the mantra gives prosperity, abundance and money, where Om means Brahma, who is beyond everything unmanifested, Mani is a gem or crystal, Padme is a lotus, Hum is the heart.
